Hair Restoration with PRP

About hair loss in men and women:

Hair loss affects 70% of men and 50% of women by the age of 70.  25% of men have balding by their 30's, and 85% by their 50's.

Successful management of hair loss requires a skilled and balanced approach for optimal outcomes. Hair restoration is a gradual process that seeks to regenerate hair follicles through growth factors and stem cell activation via PRP, thyroid balancing, topical and nutritional therapy.

PRP Hair Restoration Procedure overview:

Regions of mild to moderate thinning can be treated with platelet rich plasma (PRP) under skin, and on top of skin. Blood is drawn and spun in the Magellan device to isolate PRP. The scalp area is prepped, and numbing cream applied.  A small amount of lidocaine may also be injected.  The PRP is injected under the regions of hair thinning followed by use of topical PRP.  The application for PRP causes miniaturized hair follicles to become healthier and larger, producing more robust hair growth.  PRP activates the follicular progenitor cells (adult stem cells) and the growth factors in PRP help improve localized blood flow and cell growth. Prior to placing the PRP on top of skin the rejuvapen micro-needling device is used to make thousands of very small holes in the epidermis/dermis which will further stimulate/activate growth and allow the PRP growth factors penetrate deep into the scalp stimulating hair follicles.We recommend a follow-up microneedle treatment at 4-6 wks with the Rejuvapen device, and depending on your results, a repeat PRP treatment may be beneficial at 9 months.  Cost: $1500 

PRP Post-Procedure

Recovery from PRP is uneventful. You can take acetaminophen (OTC Tylenol) for any discomfort for next 24 hours as needed.  We will have you apply PPP (platelet poor plasma) before sleep, and then the following morning to further enhance the results. Later in morning you can wash your hair.  On the 2nd evening we will have you apply a special clear hair serum to scalp to promote further growth. This will be applied in morning and evening for 4-6 wks until we see you in follow up. It is not oily, and can be applied after you have dried your hair in morning.  Both the PPP and serum will be given to you prior to checking out. If you have a LED light therapy unit, or would like to add this into your regiment, this can also help enhance the overall results. 

What kind of results can I expect from PRP hair restoration?

As with all therapies, individual results will vary.  Most importantly, please recognize that it may take up to a year to see robust results.  Others may get great results within a couple months of treatment.  No guarantee can be made for individual cases, and PRP is not a cure for hair loss. In more severe cases of balding, Dr. Grover may refer you to a hair transplant specialist.
